William was born on August 22, 1947, in Firestone Montserrado County, Liberia to William Nimene Sherman and Kongba Troble Sherman. He graduated from St. John’s Episcopal Mission School in Robert Sports, Grand Cape Mount County, Liberia. After high school he worked at the Executive Mansion as a bookkeeper and then gained employment with Firestone Rubber Plantation in Margibi Territory, Liberia. In 1976 he traveled to the United States to attend Palm Beach Atlantic College (now Palm Beach Atlantic University) in Florida, where he received a bachelor of science degree. He worked for the Department of Children and Families for many years. And in time owned and operated multiple small businesses. He was also passionate in his quest to be close to God. And deeply believed in the need for families to be close. As the oldest of 28, he was known as a wonderful big brother.
William is preceded in death by his parents and 9 siblings, Abraham, Burt, Chester, Dolly Mai, Ductus, Kofa, Louise, Monroe, and Rose Sherman.
William is survived by daughters, Willieritta Sherman Lewis, and her husband Steven, Sherika Perez and son William M. Sherman III, 19 brothers and sisters, 3 grandchildren, 2 aunts and numerous nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives in Liberia and the United States.
The family of William Sherman Jr. wish to extend a thanks to the neighbors, who knew him as Sherman. Having lived on the same street with him for many years, you became good friends. The kindness you’ve shown will not be easily forgotten.
