Yesterday was 5 years.....5 years that we have missed having you with us.  What a truly special lady.....and what a wonderful friend.  Candle was lit....as always....and Peter did a memorial service as he does yearly for you.  The lives you touched still remember and we still love you.  Always and forever, my friend.

And yet another year without our Ro here on earth with us.  She is never far from my thoughts and always in my heart.  We, from Swayzemania, still correspond....not as often as we used to, but we always do remember Ro and her "Dear John" stories.  Once you met Ro, I can guarantee you would never forget her.

Another year has passed without our Ro here with us on earth.  I still miss her very much but am still very happy knowing she is safe and sound and with the people that she loved. 

Ro actually had another Swayzemania friend join her this year.  Marcia, who was the founder and reason why we all knew each other, went to be with the Lord this year.  I am sure that she and Ro are talking with Patrick about all of us that met through Swayzemania.  Eventually all of us will be together again and will be able to remember all the fun times together.

Met Ro thru Swayzemania.  She was so special. Loved talking to her and listening to her stories about John.  She always asked about my husband.  Wanted to make sure we were taking care of each other.   I will always remember her, how loving and special she was. 

This was sent to the members of Swayzemania today on the 1st anniversary of Ro's passing.

One year ago today our precious RO went to be with her "Dear John".  While I miss her voice and miss being able to call her and receive her calls, I rejoice in knowing that she is with the people she loves and is no longer in any pain.

Ro and I had a standing date to light a candle for John on the anniversary of his death every year.  Ro put great stock in lighting that candle and we would sit on the phone and she would tell me stories of John.  It was a time of remembering for her and a time that I could spend with her and learn more about her life.  I will continue to do that on John's anniversary.

I have a candle here on my desk lit and it will remain lit for the day in memory of Ro.  I invite you to do the same if you can as I know Ro would appreciate it and I am sure she is watching over all of us as she used to "send them up" as she prayed for us daily in life.

Her friend, Peter,  will be holding a memorial ceremony in honor of Ro today and is to contact me today as well in remembrance of Ro.

I met Roberta many years ago on a Sierra Club camping trip in Florida.  That was the start of a wonderful friendship and many adventures.  She shared with me her love of butterflies, dolphins, nature, Patrick Swayze, Peter Coyote, old movies, plays and the many memories of John.   

She remembered the trips we took and would bring them up when I called her.  A couple of them would tickle her so much she would start giggling.  Which, of course, would make me laugh as well.   Ones that she would recall included:

•	When we went to Islamorada for snorkeling, got there late and put the tent up by the light of the headlights.  I originally left the rain flap off the tent so she could look at the stars via the skylight.  It started raining of course.  So, I got up put the rain flap on.  When, 10 minutes later it stopped raining, I took the rain flap off at the request of Roberta.  That happened a couple of times during the night.  I think I finally gave up and left it off as it wasn’t raining very hard.  
•	When we watched fireworks by the ocean.  She sat there looking at the water, looked at me, looked at the water.  She couldn't resist and got up and ran across the scan and took a dip.   Clothes and all.  She was grinning so big when she came back I couldn't resist and had to do it as well.

I will miss having her in my life but the memories will continue to make me smile.   And I think of her embarking on her next great journey,  reuniting with John and the joy that she must have.

My thoughts and prayers are with all her friends and family.


How do I even begin to write about someone like Ro?  I, too, met Ro through Swayzemania many years ago and then actually had the pleasure of meeting her at Mountain Lake, VA where a portion of Dirty Dancing was filmed.  She and I developed a friendship that I will treasure forever.  We spoke on the phone at least once a week and sometimes more when things in our lives were happening and we just needed to vent.  I would come home from work and find a voicemail...."Rene, Dear...it's Ro!"   On my birthday, she would always call me very early in the morning and sing Happy Birthday to me.  I will miss that this year.  We exchanged gifts and part of my holiday gift buying was to find another dolphin item for her.  It became quite a challenge to find something new each year, but Ro always rewarded me when we opened our gifts together over the phone by telling me how exquisite the gift was and how much she loved it.  When my husband, Dave, was dying of cancer she sent care packages to him on a regular basis that made him smile.  She and I would talk about how things were going and she was here with me in spirit every step of the way.   She became my friend, my mentor, and my confidant and I have been so very blessed by her presence in my life.  Now she is my guardian angel and is with her "Dear John",  Larry, Patrick,  and my Dave.  On the anniversary of John's passing, I would call Ro at 5:15 p.m. and at 5:30 p.m. we would light a candle in remembrance of John.  She would tell me "Dear John" stories about her life with him and most of the time they were hysterically funny.....life with Ro and John would have been a sight to behold, I am sure!  It was a yearly ritual for many years.  I will miss hearing her voice here on earth, but know that in heaven she is smiling down on me and instead of "sending them up" for me...she is merely speaking directly to God.  I will always love her and will cherish each and every moment that I was so privileged to have with her.  

I first met Roberta when my sister, Margie and Larry move into there apartment on Ventnor Avenue. She was so bubbly and welcoming of our whole family. I remember how sweet she was to all of us. She was always there  for all of us.  She and my daughter Francine made a special bond with each other right away. They both loved animals, birds and flowers. Roberta sent my mom many movies when she was fighting her cancer. Roberta would send special Christmas gifts which we opened with her on the phone. But my fondest memory will always be her love for all her family and friends. She is now our angel watching over all of us and with the angels gone before her. Will always love and remember her. Our Prayers are with of her dear family and friends.




I met Roberta when she worked at Palm Beach Junior College.  We remained friends ever since.  We shared many Holiday dinners at my home after John passed away.  We  always celebrated both our birthdays with lunches.  She loved the Chinese buffet.  She also loved going out on the Palm Beach Princess.  She was very meticulous and never missed calling me on every occasion.  
I was so happy when Larry moved here as  he was able to take care of her.  It was a shock to hear of his passing before her.
Roberta, you will be reunited with your John now.  You were such a loving couple.  I remember him dropping you off at the college and how you would wave and wait until he drove off.  I was fortunate to have known  him also.  I feel like I know him as much as I know you.  All your beautiful stories about your adventures together!

Another member of Swayzemania.  Ro was a light in this world.  She had such stories and was so compassionate.  She would always ask me how my family was doing.  She  sent my sister, mom and myself Angel Cheeks.   My husband and I stopped at her place on a trip to Florida.  What a treat.  She was so thrilled to meet us in person.  She loved everyone.  My world is a bit darker with her passing but I am, also, glad she will be with her John.  So many Dear John storied shared.  I love you, Ro.  RIP

I too, Met ROE through a Patrick Swayze e-mail group and ROE was such a support to me when I went to get a guide Dog, Bandana. ROE loved Bandana and had several pictures of her in her appartment and some of those were with Patrick. She was one of the most caring ladies I have known and when my granddaughter was bit by a dog sent her an Angel Cheeks doll so she would feel better. I had the opportunity to spend some time with ROE and others from our group in Houston in 2003 where we had the opportunity to spend time with one another. When I first met ROE, Bandana took me right to her and I hadn't had a picture of her to show my dog. Though I live in Canada at the opposite end of the country I often called and spent more time then I should have on the phone, but it was still cheeper then the plane fair though I would have rather spent more time with her in Person. ROE has been a great encouragement to me and I was so happy to let her know I had graduated last april. She was so proud of me and I just want to say that you will be missed here on earth, but you will no longer suffer from pain and you get to see your John and Patrick again. For the family and friends please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. Jesus is the great comforter so lean on Him for strength in these difficult days. 

RO WAS SUCH A SWEET LADY.  SHE WAS SO THOUGHTFUL AND KIND AND DID SO MUCH FOR OTHERS.  MY FAVORITE MEMORY IS THE TIME WE SPENT TOGETHER IN HOUSTON, LAUGHING AND TALKING SWAYZEMANIA WITH THE MAN HIMSELF NEARBY.

WE HAD SO MANY PHONE CONVERSATIONS TALKING ABOUT HER LIFE ADVENTURES AND IT WAS SUCH A TREAT TO LEARN ABOUT HER LIFE AND BELIEFS.

Roberta was an Elf with an attitude!  She brought such laughter and joy into my life.  Patrick Swayze was the reason we met, I will bless his memory forever for giving me the gift that was Ro.

Roberta loved butterflies.  She planted a butterfly garden to attract them to her back porch so she could sit in her deep chair and watch them move from plant to plant.  Watching them made her smile.

Rather than refer to them as butterflies she dubbed them “flutter-by’s.”  And that made perfect sense to me.
