Rick Michael DiRoma was born in New Rochelle, NY on 8-8-67 to Rick and Tina DiRoma. In 1969 Rick's family, moved from Bronx, NY to Huntington, Long Island. As a young child, Rick always showed performing abilities. He and his older siblings, brother Mark and sister Paula, would spend hours writing and performing plays for their parents, Rick was always the star of the show. Inheriting his father's musical, artistic, and theatrical talents, Rick attended Huntington High School in Long Island where he starred in several plays, television commercials and performed in bands. He was also extremely athletic and played football, lacrosse and wrestled. In 1985, Rick received a scholarship to the NYU Tisch Music School in New York City and obtained a Bachelor of Music degree in 1989. He worked as a musician and a teacher in New York until he moved to South, Florida in 1994 to be closer to his family residing in the West Palm Beach area. For the past 20 years, Rick ran his own music studio and business, “All About Music”. He taught musical theory and performance, vocals, guitar, piano, violin and drums. Rick was a charismatic performer, singer, songwriter, and animated teacher who inspired many students of all ages. His compassion and love for people prompted him to teach autistic and handicapped children and adults using music through movement therapy. He volunteered his time to churches, community centers, schools, and special causes throughout his life. Rick was a vocal performer and mainly played harmonica, guitar and piano. He performed in Jazz and Rock venues throughout the country leading various bands with his outstanding vocals and entertainment ability. He was known for singing '70 classics such as Piano Man, Tiny Dancer, Blackbird, American Pie just to name a few from his long repertoire. His passions were art and antique restoration, and he was an avid painter. He is survived by his mother, Ernestina Tina DiRoma, his brother, Dr. Mark DiRoma, his sister, Paula deGovia, his nephew Mark DiRoma II, his nieces, Daniella DiRoma-Skirsky and Annamaria deGovia, his sister-in-law Dorothea Di Roma, his brother-in-law Rick de Govia, along with countless students and friends.
He will greatly be missed.
