Our dad John B. Rivera was born in Cidra, Puerto Rico and his parents were Aurelia Torres Rivera and Louis Rivera. Later, he moved to Brooklyn, New York where he began a career as a School Safety Agent for the Board of Education in P.S. 188. When the conversion took place to make all School Safety Agents a New York City Police Officer, he attended the Police Academy. His new title became NYPD School Safety Agent. During his distinguished career he rose to the rank of Sargeant and was in charge of numerous School Safety Officers throughout the borough of Brooklyn. As he got older he sold his home in Miami, Florida and moved in with his daughter Mildred Jimenez, her husband Phillip Jimenez and his grandson Christian Jimenez in West Palm Beach, Florida, which became his final resting place.
Before his passing he attended Iglesia Cristo Mi Redentor where he gave his life to Christ. Our dad was religious and often sang and played the guitar. He was in several bands and even had records. On many family gathering you can hear my dad sing and play the guitar, often with his brothers and other family members. That was his passion and his hobby.
