Joan M. Kidd was born June 7, 1926 to Sara A. and the late John H. Murray in Youngstown, OH. Raised by her mother and a host of loving relatives, she learned the value of family. Joan was gifted with a beautiful soprano voice and beginning in her teens studied voice, presented recitals and sang in the choir of Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, Youngstown. One of her choir friends introduced her to David Kidd, a veteran just returned from the European Theatre of World War II. They married in 1949 while Dave was completing his education. They moved to Lake Worth, Florida in 1951 where Dave began a teaching career. Joan worked with GMAC, with a knack for keeping accounts, until their children, John and Kathleen were born. Once the children were in school, Joan began working part time selling World Book Encyclopedia. As the children grew, her career did also. She became a Division Manager with the company. During this time, she sang in the choir of Lakeside Presbyterian Church and with the Civic Opera of the Palm Beaches. She also joined Masterworks Chorus after her retirement. Joan enjoyed serving her church, chairing the Women’s Association, various committees, and serving as a Deacon and an Elder. She was blessed with a granddaughter, Sara, daughter of son John and daughter-in-law Roberta. In 2012, she moved to Raleigh, NC to be close to her children, and in Raleigh joined White Memorial Presbyterian Church, and participated in Circle and Sunday school. She enjoyed attending concerts and the ballet. After several years of declining health, she passed peacefully in her sleep August 22, 2018. Joan was predeceased by her husband David and mother Sara. Joan is survived by her son Rev.John and wife Rev. Roberta Kidd, daughter Kathleen Kidd, Ph.D., granddaughter Sara, brother Robert Murray of New Jersey, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Wednesday August 29 with visitation starting at 10:00 am at Lakeside Presbyterian Church 4601 South Flagler Drive West Palm Beach Fl. 33405. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be sent to Lakeside Presbyterian Church
