Franklin Ray Smith, 73, having just visited with his children, passed away comfortably in his sleep on December 29, 2014 with his beloved wife Kay, nearby. Frank served in the Army in Korea, earning good conduct medals expert rifleman and sharpshooter awards. He then spent his life working hard in: law enforcement, heavy equipment, retail sales and the trucking business. He was a participating member of his HOA and thoroughly enjoyed "tinkering" around the house and helping his neighbors. He was a coach to many in McArthur Little League and Lake Lytal Lassie League in the '70's and '80's. He could be as intense on anything as he could be easy with a smile. He enjoyed his time with those he loved and all the dogs he has had over the years, most especially, Piper.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Kay (Ruhlman) who misses him greatly, "He was my everything", his son Michael, granddaughter Taylor (Titusville, FL.) his daughter Michelle and grandsons Raylen & Nicholas (Boca Raton) and his brothers Henry Clay (Betty) Barbre (Clarksville, TN.), Bruce Barbre (Fort Pierce), Melvin (Cathy) Barbre (Vero Beach), and Ross Barbre (West Palm Beach). He also leaves a host of cousins, (great) nieces and nephews, and his lifelong friend, Vernon (Gene) Cagle (Tampa).
He is preceded in death by his mother, Doris Mae Miller Daetwyler and brother William Barbre. His family will receive friends, at the funeral home, on January 20th between 10:00 am & 11:30 am where his memorial service will be held on January 20, 2015 at 11:30 am. Immediately following there will be inurnment services at the South Florida National Cemetery, with military honors, at 1:00 pm. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dorsey - E.
