Arlene L. Maguire

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Frances Arlene Lash Maguire (Arlene Maguire) on Friday April 30, 2021. Arlene was born March 1, 1933 in Lash, Pennsylvania, to Charles and Frances (Smith) Lash.

The family moved to Lake Worth in 1957, and she began working as a secretary for the new manufacturer in Palm Beach County, Pratt & Whitney. While employed there, she met and married William H. Maguire Jr. When they married in 1962, she instantly became mother to six children and soon had two more. Arlene was a creative sort, and in the 1980’s she began what would become her life’s passion, orchids. She became an accredited judge for the American Orchid Society and began traveling across the continent to orchid shows as a judge, meeting and forming valuable friendships from Hawaii to South America. Her many activities included bowling, ceramics, crocheting, knitting, cross-stitching, and most recently, quilting.

Arlene is survived by her two biological children, Terrence (Mary) and Sandra (James) Bringley, and her beloved six stepchildren, Gerald (Audrey), Kathleen Tracy (Michael), William III, Sean (Barbara), Deborah Dibble (Sherman), Sheila DeRosa (Michael). She was a loving grandmother to 20, great grandmother to 40 and great great-grandmother to one, and many nieces and nephews. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Jr. of 42 years, her parents, her brother Ronald and sister-in-law, Judith Lash, daughter in-law, Rebecca, and a grandson, William IV.

A gathering of family & friends for Arlene will be held Tuesday, May 4, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Dorsey-E. Earl Smith Funeral Home, 3041 Kirk Road, Lake Worth, FL 33461. A Celebration of Life Services will take place Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the funeral home. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 AM at Lake Worth Memory Gardens. Pastor Sherman Dibble will officiate. Memorials may be made to the American Orchid Society in Arlene’s memory.
