Rosemary Kauffman, age 90, of Lake Odessa, was called to her heavenly home on September 20, 2023. She passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who was loved by all who knew her. Her love and loyalty to her family and friends was beyond measure. We are deeply saddened to lose her, but have peace in knowing she is in a better place.
She was born September 5, 1933 to Vere and Marian Howlett of Clarksville, Michigan. Most of her life was spent in Clarksville until moving to the farm in 1971. She met the love of her life and soulmate, Bob, while attending Saranac High School. They were married on May 7, 1954 and celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this year. Their time together was precious and he was definitely her “sweetheart”.They raised 5 children together and their love for one another was a testimony to all who knew them.
Rosemary strongly maintained her faith in God acquired at a young age from the Clarksville Bible Church. Her and Bob were long time members of the church and lived their lives as an example of Christian values. She served many roles as a member of the church, but her favorite was taking care of babies in the nursery, which she did for many years.
She loved flowers, reading about Amish life and enjoyed watching the birds come to the feeder. Her real love was caring for children, which she did for many years. These children are all adults now and if they see her express how much they loved being with her and considered her a second mom. Later in life, she took care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Because of the hours she spent with them playing school, reading to them, and taking care of them when they were sick, she developed a very special relationship with each one of them. ‘Mom’ was a title she wore like a badge of honor and she cherished her family above all else. She was an incredible homemaker and took great pride in keeping the house neat and tidy. Her special gift was creating an atmosphere in her home where everyone was welcome, which often meant it was the hangout place after school for many friends.
Rosemary is survived by her loving husband, Bob; her five children, Robin Kauffman, Becky (Jeff) Eckstrom, Lee (Melissa) Kauffman, Ron (Dawn) Kauffman and Shane (Shannon) Hughes.
Her grandchildren include Jason (Robyn) Kauffman, Samantha Boucher (Levon Stoecker), Ronald (Danielle) Kauffman, and Cassandra Kauffman (Jordan Pfeifer). Her Great-Grandchildren, Ella, Kora and Kade Boucher, Avalynne Kauffman, Austin and Justin Sol, Brinley, Timothy Haney, Victoria Rose PFeifer and Jace Pfeifer.
She is also survived by sister in laws Ruth Ann (Ernie) Newman, Julie Benschoter and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister Joyce Alderink and Pat Howlett along many other loved ones.
