Miller, Ammon, Jr Ammon (Jiggs) Miller, Jr., 96, passed away peacefully at home in the care of his wife, Violet Miller and Grace Hospice, on Saturday, May 29th. He was born to Ammon Miller, Sr., and Barbara (Near) Miller on October 6th, 1924. He graduated from Lake Odessa High School in 1942 and continued on to Michigan State for a year before joining the Marines in World War II. After the war, he continued his education. He married Violet Sidnam on October 23rd, 1948 and farmed for 10 years before changing his major from forestry to teaching. He taught in the Caledonia School System until retiring in 1978. After retiring from teaching, he volunteered for the Red Cross, later volunteering for the Brethren Disaster Ministries, he also helped Habitat for Humanity build houses . He thoroughly enjoyed working as a disaster volunteer for over 30 plus years, because he was helping people in need. He is survived by his loving wife, Violet Miller, of 72 years; his two sons, James Miller (Anne), Kip Miller, and daughter Julie Ann Barker (Dennis). He had six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, who enjoyed visiting him on the farm. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ammon & Barbara Miller, his sister, Sarah Anne Miller, and his adopted daughter Kristine Miller Warf. Ammon was a registered body donor at the University of Michigan Medical School and in 1968 signed up with the Anatomical Donation Program. So, according to his wishes, Koops Funeral Home in Lake Odessa, Michigan, has taken care of the transportation to the U of M. His ashes will be interred with his family, in the Clarksville Cemetery, Clarksville, Michigan, at a later date. A Memorial Service has been planned for Saturday, June 5th, 11:00 a.m., at the Hope Church of the Brethren, 14275 92nd St., Freeport, Michigan 49325. Visitation with family will be held from 10 a.m. to service time. Memorial contributions can be given to Emergency Disaster Fund, Church of the Brethren, 1451 Dundee Ave., Elgin, Illinois 60120.
