

Dr. Vernice Green, Sr. was born to Isaac Arthamore Green and Mary Hebert Green on July 7, 1934 in Chatainger, Louisiana. He graduated from Washington High School, American Baptist College, and Lake Charles Bible College.
Vernice moved to Lake Charles in 1957 and united with Zion Tabernacle Baptist Church. Under the leadership of Dr. Nathaniel Pius Jones, Vernice was a very faithful and dedicated member. He served in many capacities including deacon, Sunday School teacher, and in 1970, he became an ordained minister. He was an employee at PPG Industries and retired after thirty years of service.
Rev. Vernice Green, Sr. was assigned to assist Rev. M. M. Cuby at St. James Baptist Church in Vinton, Louisiana, where he later became pastor. After several years, he was called to serve as pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Jennings, Louisiana. He was a member of the Seventh District Association.
In 1978, Rev. Vernice Green, Sr. built Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana and served as Pastor until July 6, 2008. He was affiliated with the Baptist Ministers Union where he served as secretary, National Baptist State Convention, Louisiana Baptist State Convention, and the NAACP. As a staunch advocate for children he frequently volunteered his services in the schools for various activities and programs.
Rev. Green leaves as a loving legacy his loving and devoted wife, Louvella Poullard Green; five daughters, Armajean Declouet, Louanna Green-Taylor, Dolores G. Boyce, Linda Green-Miles (Larry), and Velvet G. Burrell; three sons, Vernice Green, Jr. (Natasha Raney), Michael W. Green (Gloria Washington), and Isaac J. Green (Deborah Cain); sixteen grandchildren; Shuntel A. Williams, Neykia L. Declouet, Latoya R. Green, Lashayla R. Green, Jessica D. Wilson, Erica R. Moore, Larry Miles, Jr., Melissa M. Smith, Shalara M. Miles, Velvet L. Burrell, Adrian C. Burrell, Heather D. Green, Vijay A. Green, Kayle’ M. Alexander, Jordan Lewis-Green, Christina R. Green, Diannah J. Green; fifteen great-grandchildren; Trevion Declouet, Telisa Williams, Tyler Williams, Ashley Bell, Ralph Randolph, Isiah Randolph, Caitlin Wilson, Madison Wilson, Ethan Wilson, Caleb Ledet, Naomi Miles, Hadassah Miles, Rikima Miles, Dylan Green, Nevaeh Green; two brothers; Allen Green, IT Green; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. and continue until 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Zion Tabernacle Baptist Church, 910 North Shattuck Street, Lake Charles, LA 70601. His Homegoing Celebration will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning. Pastor Roland Mouton will be officiating. Pastor C.C. Williams Sr. will be presenting the Eulogy.
