Mrs. Mouton was born April 1, 1938, and grew up in Sweetlake, LA, then moved to Creole, LA. She attended school there until her family moved to Jennings, LA where she attended Jennings High School. At the age of 16, she married the love of her life, Laurice Bennett Mouton, Sr. on July 3, 1954. They enjoyed 58 years together, traveling and spending time with family and friends all the while creating unforgettable memories with those they came in contact with. Mrs. Mouton lived in Lake Charles, LA for 40 years and was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, then moved to Ragley where she was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Also known as "Momma Shirley", she was a second mom to hundreds of teens that came through her door, and would feed, doctor, counsel and fight for every one of them as if they truly were hers. When she became a grandmother, there was no question where her love and loyalty lied. All of her attention was then directed at them and she later included their friends in her circle of love. After they blessed her with great grandchildren, her role became even more fiercely protective. Everyone knew not to "poke the bear" when it came to her "adopted" kids, her own children, and her grand and great grandchildren.
Mrs. Mouton leaves behind her daughter, Jolane Lonidier and husband Robert; granddaughters, Layna Matte and husband Trent and Ashlyn Dyer and husband Hollan, all of Ragley; Zachary Buxton whom she considered a grandson and his wife Miriam, of Gilbert, AZ.; great grandchildren, Aubree Gaston, Kamry and Olivia Matte, Cullen East, Quinn Dyer, and Alice Buxton. She also leaves behind one sister, Esther Mae Guillory of Welsh, LA, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she adored and loved from the bottom of her heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Laurice Bennett Mouton, Sr.; son, Laurice Bennett "Benny" Mouton, Jr.; parents, Amada and Amadia Conner; brothers, Landry Conner, Cliff Conner, Elias Conner, Hewitt Conner, Ernest Conner, and Lynn Conner; sisters, Zilda Bourgeois, Veola Broussard, Jessie Hymel, and Viviana Marcantel, and Burt Buxton whom she took in as her son.
