On February 26, 2024, Norma Broussard (Nancy) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends. A lifetime Louisiana native, Norma was well-loved from Lake Charles to Westlake to Mossville. She was a proud mother of 9 children and married to Paul Russell Broussard, Sr. 67 years.
She was known to all by three names, Nancy, Momma, and Maw-Maw Nancy. She was a longstanding, faithful member of Mount Zion Baptist Church where she served as an Usher.
Norma received her GED regardless of any challenges that may have derailed her. She went on to work for S. P. Arnett Middle School in Westlake, LA; and was a retiree of the Calcasieu Parish School Board.
Despite her large family Norma always made time for everyone. She would proudly boast about her children and grandchildren graduating from high school and was elated over their accomplishments regardless of how big or small. She truly advocated for them.
Norma LOVED to feed and serve people, and she was a great Cook! She could “throw down” in the kitchen… from preparing a good pot of beans and rice to a tasty seafood pasta. She simply enjoyed cooking for everyone and relished in surprising her family with surprise recipes that were “spot on”!
She cared deeply for her family, friends, and neighbors. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She was always willing to offer help in other's time of need. She brought meals to the homes of the sick and comforted them with her prayers. She also would share some really good, all-natural, old-school home remedies if you were not feeling well.
As she aged gracefully, she modified her diet to a more natural organic nourishment; thanks to her sister, Romel Walker, who was a big influence on her. She loved her younger sister dearly and always bragged about the gifts and green tea Romel sent her!
Norma was a woman of strong will and consistent in her faith. She made God a priority, surrounded herself with a community of believers, and allowed herself grace!
During her time of discomfort not once did she discuss her illness. Her joy for life and indomitable spirit kept her pushing through any agony.
Her 93 years of living on this earth were filled with joy, knowing God is in control of every situation. It is trusting Him and knowing that everything is going to be okay. This is the message she communicated in her own way, and wanted everyone (especially her children and grandchildren) to know.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jennie and Willie Perkins Sr.; daughters, Carolyn Roberts and Linda Broussard LeBlanc; son, Walter Roberts; grandson, Gerald "Buster" Duhon, Jr.; siblings, Bayner Perkins, Ernest (Vivian) Perkins Sr., Cleo Perkins-Lewis, Elmo Perkins, Willie Perkins, and Horace Perkins.
Norma is survived by her husband, Paul Russell Broussard Sr; children, David (Crystal) Broussard, Paul (Jeidy) Broussard Jr., Cynthia (Darryl) Muldrow, Donna Boyd, Anthony (Kelli) Broussard and Charles Broussard; grandchildren, Janine Jack, Brandon Roberts, Cheryl (David) Brignac, Jennie January, Brandi January, Melinda Harrison, Kendall Celestine, Alexis Howard, Adonis Broussard, Ambriel Roberson, Ellison Broussard, Diante Jack, Treyvon Broussard, Jordan Broussard, Nick Broussard, Corben Broussard, MacKenzie Broussard, Makayla Broussard, Great Grandchildren, A’Jhan Robinson, Milana Brignac, Joshua Hardin Jr, David Brignac Jr, Jakeim Hardin, Jazlynn Guillory, Ca’Leah Babin, Hayven Roberson, Ava Walker, Braylen Jones, Anaya, Amaya, Ayannah Anderson, Brandyn Roberts, Ashley Beeler, Alecia Hwang, Saide, Haley, Layla Howard, Mia, Hazel, Kehlani and Peyton Booker, Nyla Vivero, Summya Bush Kebren Broussard, Ky'lyn Jack; sister, Romel Perkins-Walker; sister-in-Law- Susan Perkins; brother-in-Law, David T.
