He was born in Ft. Belvoir, Virginia and lived all of his adult life in Creole till Hurricane Rita. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and worked as an operator for Anadarko Petroleum Co. He served his country in the United States National Guard. He loved anything to do with the outdoors. He loved watching football and was an avid Saints and LSU fan. He loved to BBQ for family and friends, playing cards and golfing. He was an avid Blood Donor. He was a loving son, father, brother, grandson, uncle, godfather and friend.
He is survived by his parents, Jean and Catherine Dimas of Sweetlake; sons, Brennen Dimas of Sulphur, Kyler Dimas of Holmwood and Tate Dimas of Holmwood; daughter, Morghan Dimas of Holmwood; sister, Cyndie Bailey and husband, Troy of Sweetlake; nephews, Niklas and Shadd of Sweetlake; girlfriend, Terri Wells of Lake Charles; paternal grandmother, Margie Dimas of Grand Lake and maternal grandmother, Rosalie Whiting of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
His funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rev. Tim Goodly will officiate. Pallbearers assisting in his service will be Brennen Dimas, Eric Rutherford, Roman Theriot, John Jay LaBove, Joey Fontenot, Jared LaBove. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sean Rogers, Jamie Carroll, Paul Davidson, Corey Doucet, B.J. Dimas, Mike Meaux, Jason LaBove, Robbie LaFosse, and Twan Dallas. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Creole. Michael Keith Dimas was a natural leader whose winning presence allowed him to take control of various situations with ease. Equipped with a clear and calculating focus, he possessed a tough-minded, “take charge” attitude. He had the ability to make even routine situations seem exciting, and he was at ease with the role of playing problem solver. Mikey and Michael always sought out the scene of where the action was. Sociable, analytical and pleasant, Mikey and Michael was an individual who enjoyed life’s challenges.
Mikey and Michael was born on April 24, 1973 at DeWitt Army Hospital in Fort Belvior, VA. His parents were Jean and Cathy Dimas. Mikey and Mike was raised in Milatary child traveler, and youth and adult life in Creole, LA. Always able to express himself well, Mikey and Mike possessed strong interpersonal skills. He was optimistic in his outlook on life and was able at all times to be open and direct in his communication. Armed with a great wit, Mikey and Michael was raised to be accepting of others and to implement a strong personal work ethic.
Blessed with a balanced attitude, Mikey and Michael was able to relate well with others. His occasional role as family mediator gave him the opportunity to ease tense situations when they occurred. Mikey and Mikchael was raised with one. Cyndie. Mikey had a strong desire to be treated fairly and would readily offer others the same fairness in return.
As a young child, Mikey and Michael showed his creative ability in many ways. He was outgoing and animated. Mikey and Michael enjoyed new activities and pursued a variety of interests. He took part in little league baseball. In his spare time he liked trapping, hunting, fishing. Michael's memorable achievements included was Sweetheart King at South Cameron Elem. & Catholic Student of the year.
Known to others as a focused, logical, open-minded and somewhat driven individual, Mikey and Michael was able to utilize these qualities to succeed in high school. His curious nature was spurred by his ability to maximize his personal learning style through employing a hands-on approach. He was good with facts and had an excellent memory. He graduated from South Cameron High School in 1992. He enjoyed some courses more than others, having favorite classes and teachers. Played Football and Beta Club.
Friends and acquaintances found Mikey and Michael an easy man to get to know, and those close to him would often praise his open, practical style of communication and relaxed approach to life in general. Mikey and Michael was uncomplicated and straightforward in his relationships, which allowed him to accept people for what they were. While growing up, some of his best friends were Sean Rogers, Roman Theriot, Eric Rutherford John Jay LaBove, Jamie Carroll, Jason LaBove, Jared LaBove. Later in life, he became friends with Corey Doucet, B J Dimas, Joey Fontenot, Mike Meaux, Paul Davidson,Twan Dallas, Robbie LaFosse, Brain Trahan,Stacey Landreaux.
Very much like a kid himself, Mikey and Michael identified with the inquisitive and creative side of his children’s personalities. He was able to direct his energy and spontaneity towards helping his children acquire added common sense skills. Michael was blessed with Four children, Three sons Brennen, Kyler, Tate, and one daughter Morghan.
Mikey and Michael was a flexible worker who was able to draw the best from others around him. A persuasive individual who was quick to make necessary decisions, Mikey and Michael’s strengths included being able to think on his feet. He could be a leader who sought impact for his decisions. Gifted with an incredible ability to read body language, Mikey and Mike was able to positively manipulate situations and motivate others in order to get a task completed. He was a good negotiator who enjoyed new challenges. Mikey and Mike could multi-task, and he was endowed with entrepreneurial spirit, allowing him to think beyond standard norms when it came to resolving issues in his work environment. His primary occupation was an operator for Anadarko. He was employed for 5 years.
Michael was in the Louisiana Army National Guard. Mikey and Michael was a cool thinker who could handle himself well in a crisis. Michael saw action for none. He achieved the rank of PVT. He showed leadership qualities and could make tough decisions when he was called upon to do so.
Mikey and Michael enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. He had something of an artistic flair in many of the things that he did. He put this creativity toward all of his pastimes. His favorite pursuits were the outdoors, golfing, boating, fishing and playing cards with the family. He was content to enjoy his hobbies alone but was also willing to share his interests with others.
Because he liked to take risks, Mikey and Michael was a perfect match for athletics and exercise. He was enthusiastic and confident about these activities. In high school, Michael played football. Michael continued to stay active by none. Recreational sports included golf, solfball, and volleyball. Mikey and Michael was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed watching his favorite events whenever he got the opportunity. Tops on his list were Pro-football and College football Saints and LSU.
Mikey and Michael was a gifted problem solver who worked hard to help accomplish group goals. This skill made him a wonderful asset to the various groups and organizations to which he belonged. Always matter-of-fact about what needed to be done, Mikey and Michael worked steadily to meet any organization’s goals. In high school, Michael was a member of the Beta. Throughout his later years, Michael was an active member of the Civil Defense.
Mikey and Micahel held close traditional values and as a result, faith was important to him. He was a member Sacred Heart Catholic Church. During that time, he was alter boy and CYO.
Travel and vacations were experiences that Mikey and Michael truly enjoyed. He preferred to seek out excitement wherever he went and he was partial to vacations that were casual and laid back with an atmosphere of “live and let live.” He was willing to leave his plans open and flexible, just in case something more interesting came along. Favorite vacations included Skiing in Squaw Valley, NV,Cruise and South Padre Island.
Mikey and Micahel was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. One of Mikey and Michael’s favorites was Dog Casey and Max. His family was rounded out by his hamster, dog, cat, and horse Star.
Mikey and Michael passed away on August 21, 2010 at Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles, LA. A boating accident. Services were held at Hixions Funeral Home. Michael was laid to rest in St. Anthony's Cemetary.
Michael will always be remembered for his beautiful smile and the sparkle in his eyes. His smile would light up a room. He lived his life to the fullest.
I'm in content knowing he is with our eternal Father, because at the services, a helicopter took off and Jean,(his father) said they are taking Michael home, and right after that, the largest most beautiful Monarch Butterfly flew around the casket, through the pallbearers, and then hovered over the casket for a few seconds and then flew away. In my heart, at that moment a calmness came over me (his mother Cathy)and I knew he was in heaven with our Dear Lord.
His services concluded with each of us shoveling dirt, his parent Jean and Cathy, sister Cyndie, girlfriend Terri and his children Brennen, Morghan, Kyler, and Tate and all who wish to take part, set forth by his Uncle Gary,"it is our tradition, we Bury our own".
Mikey and Micahel was the kind of person who could win others over easily. A concrete communicator, he relied on his senses to increase his involvement and awareness of others. He was always able to provide amusing repartee to his friends and acquaintances, offering a seemingly endless supply of quips, anecdotes, jokes and stories. If Mikey and Michael had a theme song written about him, it might well have been “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.” He enjoyed his life and the experience of living it. This is how everyone will remember Michael Keith Dimas.
