He attended Lake Charles Boston High School. At 19 he entered into the United States Navy, but before his departure he married the love of his life, Joanne. During his enlistment he served on the USS Bordelon as an Electrical Repairman during the Vietnam War. In 1973 they welcomed their first son Michael James Davis, Jr. Upon receiving his honorable discharge in 1977, he returned to Lake Charles, welcoming two more sons, Daniel in 1978 and Jacob in 1981.
He will best be remembered as a dutiful father and grandfather. He was selfless and charitable, traveling often to Guatemala, Haiti and Panama, volunteering his time to help others and rebuild their communities. He believed in his children learning those lifelong lessons of life, Michael Jr. learned how to replace a sheered pin in the boat motor after his attempt at a long Olympic swim back towards the dock.
Jacob giving dad a scare when he thought he was stuck in mud near the dock, his rendition of it being he spent "45 minutes sifting through the mud under the dock looking for him, never being more happy when he saw him cutting grass up the road."
While home he enjoyed fishing and camping with his sons and numerous grandchildren.
Michael is survived by; son Michael J Davis; son Daniel Davis; daughter-in-law Heather Davis; son Jacob Davis; and daughter-in-law Rachel Davis; brother Mark Davis, brother Douglas Davis, sister-in-law Deon Davis, sister Linda Mouton, brother-in-law David Mouton, sister Kathy Doise and brother-in-law Steve Doise and 14 grandchildren.

Cremation has been entrusted to Hixson Funeral Home. The family will welcome family and friends on Friday, August 2, 2019 beginning at 9am with a celebration of life led by Brother Gary Evers at 12:00pm. He will be buried next to his wife in Lacassine Cemetery.
