Marvin M. Ettinger, M.D., F.A.C.S., passed away peacefully at home the morning of Thursday, December 1st. Born in DeQuincy, LA November 22, 1926, he died at the age of 90. He was a graduate of Bolton High School, LSU and LSU Medical School and practiced general surgery beginning in 1951.
As a young boy of almost 17, he joined the Navy during WWII. He faithfully served his country in the Navy, the Army National Guard, and in later years, the Air Force.
He served as President of the West Bank Lions Club and Jefferson Parish Medical Society. He was a founder of both the Lafayette Bonsai Club and the Lake Charles Bonsai Society. He served as both a lay minister and Eucharistic minister in churches in Louisiana and Mississippi.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn Savant Ettinger, sister Shirley Orlansky and husband David of Madison, MS; and his children: Mark Ettinger, M.D. and wife Gena of Colleyville, TX; April Ettinger of Lafayette, LA; Robert Ettinger, Atty. of Austin, TX; Jane Ettinger, Atty. of New Orleans, LA; and Eric Ettinger of New Orleans, LA. Stepchildren: Greg Savant of Pearland, TX and Angela Savant Davis of Katy, TX; 11 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 3rd at Hixson’s in Lake Charles from 4-8 p.m. Celebration of a Christian’s life will be at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepard at 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Military Honors burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made in Dr. Ettinger’s name to “Tend My Lambs” through the church.
