Marjorie Jeanette Hebert, known as Jeanne to all who knew her, was born on August 4, 1927, in Lake Charles and passed away on January 25, 2016, at age 88. She will be remembered as a loving daughter and sister and as Aunt Jeanne to her nieces and nephews and Miss Hebert to her young students who loved her dearly. Miss Hebert was a graduate of McNeese University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and was the first kindergarten teacher at St. Margaret School and a first grade teacher at Our Lady Queen of Heaven School for many years. Her kindness and love for others, especially children, and the devoted care she gave her mother and father until their passing caused her to be admired by all who knew her. She enjoyed classical music and was a baseball enthusiast in the final years of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Georgette Barret Hebert, and brother Andrew John Hebert.
Living to cherish many memories of her kindnesses are the families of nieces Jerry Starks of Armore, Oklahoma, Barbara DiBartolo of Lake Charles, Marlene Reed of New Iberia, Darlene Davis of Tyler, Texas, Susan Stanford of Lake Charles; nephews Patrick Donovan of Lake Charles, Ronald Bernard of Katy, Texas, Donald Hebert of Baton Rouge, Michael Hebert of Beaumont, Texas, and Mark Stroud of Foccroft, Maine, and numerous great-grand nieces and nephews as well as cousins in France, the homeland of her mother. Marjorie (Jeanne) was especially fond of Tony DiBartolo whom she often said was more like a son than a nephew by marriage.
The family wishes to thank the managing staff and friends at Tower Oaks Apartment Complex, especially Shelly Young and Caregiver Susan Hooper, and Betty Hebert her friend and hairdresser for many years and to all the staff at Rest Haven Nursing Home for the exceptional care during the last 13 months, and to Brighton Bridge Hospice for their exceptional care tending to her needs in the final week before her death. (Sandi Hebert, Michelle Phillips, Tina Johnson, Joyce Fisher, Shey Barret and Melinda Kellar).
Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles from 12pm-2:30pm on Thursday, January 28, 2016. A Graveside Service at Consolata Cemetery will be conducted by Father Guilbeau at 3pm following visitation hours. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com
