John M. 'Man' Theriot, age 92, went home to our Lord at 11:50a.m. on December 4, 2014, at his residence surrounded by family and friends. He was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, great-uncle, and loyal friend to many in his community. 'Man' was born on October 29, 1922, in Creole, where he lived most of his life. He attended Creole High School, and served in the U.S. Army in World War II in North Africa, India, and Burma, from 1941 to 1945. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Creole,
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #3014 and the American Legion/VFW in Creole; also the, LA Cattleman's Association. 'Man' was a cattleman for his entire life, and was "one of the last standing of the original Creole Cowboys". He enjoyed gardening and caring for his tremendously bearing grapefruit tree. Although quiet and soft-spoken, he was known for his helpfulness to others, for his generosity to many, and for his subtle sense of humor often brought out in frequent visits with his close by great-nieces and nephew. 'Man' leaves a legacy as truly a man of strength and courage, especially when he struggled to assure family members survived the devastation of Hurricane Audrey in 1957; and later, Hurricane Rita in 2005 .
Survivors include his son, J. Ronald Theriot, and spouse, Marlene M. Theriot, of Houston; sister, Teen T. Wicke of Lake Charles; a sister-in-law, Adalee 'Ricks' Broussard of Grand Chenier; grandchildren: Alex Theriot, and his wife, Emily N. Theriot, of Houston; and Andrea T. Ross, and husband, Scott Ross; great-granddaughters, Gwyneth Ella Ross and Meredith Juliette Ross of Austin; nephews: Gary Wicke and Greg Wicke, and spouse, Wendy, niece: Faye Wicke, and spouse, John; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle Broussard Theriot, and his parents: Ursin and Veronica Theriot.
Pallbearers will be: Greg Wicke, Joshua Wicke, Alex Theriot, Carl Broussard, Bobby Montie and Mike Montie.
A Celebration of 'Man's' Life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Creole. Father Herbert May will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, December 8, 2014 from 3:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles with a rosary at 6:30p.m., and will resume Monday from 9:00a.m. until service time.
