Born and raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana, John joined the Navy when he turned 18 and served in the countries of Turkey and later Scotland, where he met & married the love of his life, Carol. After some years in Scotland, he returned to the United States and worked for the National Security Agency (NSA). Later in life, he worked offshore in the oil industry, and then as a security guard at Delta Downs Casino for many years before retiring.
John believed "Respect" was the key to everything in life. A self-described adventurer and philosopher, he believed in waking up each day and living it to the fullest. He believed in working hard, having fun, and "making life happen the way you want."
"There were very few things that Grandy didn't try to repair, or make better in some way. He believed that people all have the potential for good at their core and that our choices ultimately make each of us who we are. He was a cornerstone of support of his children and grandchildren's lives, and was always ready to give his advice on life's challenges."
He had many interests over his lifetime that included: golf, music, writing, rescuing animals, fishing, hunting, boating, photography, art, gardening, riding motorcycles, and spending time with family & friends. He had an altruistic nature and genuinely loved to help and teach others.
He also believed in "looking and really seeing" the beauty of nature and said: "God paints a masterpiece for us every night with each sunset."
He is preceded in passing by his parents, Verna and Emmett Arnold.
He is survived by his lifetime love, Carol Garty Arnold, to whom he was married almost 58 years; his two children, Kimberly and Robert Arnold; as well as 7 grandchildren: Sloane Elizabeth Churchman, Payten Arnold, Nadine Chaisson, Gavin Arnold, John Seth Chaisson, Brenna Arnold, and Bevin Arnold; and 3 great-grandchildren, Ayla, Ronan, and William; sister, Patricia, and her daughters, Leslie Coleman and Erin Coleman-Zeringue, & their children; and by other beloved family members, including Audrey & Tara Lucas, and Damon Garty of the U.K.
Grandy will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. He leaves a long legacy of love, kindness, and service to his fellow man.
A memorial service will be held at a later date
