Holmwood - Mr. Fontenot passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 in the early morning at his residence, surrounded by his loving family in Holmwood, LA.
Jimmy Carrol Fontenot was born in Lake Charles, LA on July 17, 1942 to Eason and Lula Mae (Primeaux) Fontenot. He attended Bell City High School.
He resided in Holmwood his entire life where he and his wife, Sandra (Leger) Fontenot lived and raised their four children.
He was involved in farming his entire life. He began his way of life that was his passion when he was very young. Years later his son, Ricky, farmed and crawfished with him.
He most recently worked at the Cormier Farm in Bell City where he cooked during hunting season and preformed various farming duties.
He will be most remembered by his love for cooking. He touched so many people by preparing meal's for family gatherings, church bazaars and many other community events. Through his gift of cooking he made many friends and brought many of us together to celebrate life and love.
He will be missed by his dear friends, Larry Ammon, Lawrence Primeaux, Clifford Young, Damon Cormier, Tommy Joe Robinson, Ronnie Gragg, Irvy Reon. Taylor Vincent and all his friends at the hunting camp.
He was a generous and loving father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Sandra (Leger) Fontenot, his children, Kirk and his wife, Angie; Kim and his partner, Angie; Ricky and his wife, Melissa; and Pam Fontenot; grandchildren, Noelle Arabie and her partner, James Begnaud; Jacob, Ty, Nick, Brandon and Derrick Fontenot and one great grandson, Baylor Begnaud; sister, Diane (Fontenot) Thibeaux, mother-in-law, Florine Leger, brother-in-law, Johnny Fontenot; sisters-in-law, Winnie Primeaux, Amanda Leger and Barbara Leger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Curly, his sister, Loudale Fontenot, his father-in-law, Cyril Leger and his brothers-in-law, Whitney Leger and Zeg Thibeaux.
The Family would like to thank the staff of Amedisys Hospice and their nurses, Penny, Callie and Jesse.
They would also like to thank all the many family and friends who stayed by his bedside around the clock so that he would know that he was not alone, especially his wife, Sandra, daughter, Pam, his sister, Diane , niece, Veronica and cousins, Janie and Charlotte.
His funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 28, 2012 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bell City. Fr. Emmanuel Tanu will officiate. Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. and a Cursillo Rosary at 7:30 p.m. and resume Friday from 8:00 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be at Lorraine Cemetery in Hayes, LA, under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Nick Fontenot, Jacob Fontenot, Brandon Fontenot, Derrick Fontenot, Ty Fontenot, James Begnaud, Byron Thibodeaux, Wesley Trahan.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the family to assist with the medical and funeral expenses.
