Janet Joy (Assunto) Dolan, 85, of Lake Charles, transitioned from this life to the next on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at her residence. A life-long resident of Lake Charles, she was born on December 20, 1935. In her youth, she won a beauty contest judged by Bob Barker, was an accomplished roller skater and was gifted with a lovely voice. She met her future husband, 'Gene' Dolan, when they were part of a chorus performing Handel's Messiah and they were married from 19 53 until his death in 2008. They had two daughters.
Janet performed in many musical and stage productions and, after raising her children, she became a student at McNeese University where she earned a Masters Degree in Music. She received scholastic honors and was awarded a place in 'Who's Who in Colleges and Universities'. She taught music at Middle Schools before opening her business, Serendipity on Ryan Street, where she enjoyed serving the community until she retired.
During her last years, she was able to travel and see many places of interest all over the world.
She is survived by her two daughters, Janel Dolan Jones and Jeannine Ann Dolan, who both reside in Fort Worth, TX., her grandchildren, Sean M. Jones and Kate E. Jones, and her great-grandchildren, Dexter M. Jones and Jason A. Jones.
Janet is preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald Eugene Dolan; and her late parents, Jacinto Jay and Nellie May (Texada) Assunto.
