He was born in Westlake and lived there all his life. He worked as an operator at Olin for 19 years, and there after a startup engineer for the Foster Wheeler Corp. He was also a past master of Westlake Masonic Lodge #443, a member of Lake Charles Scottish Rite Bodies, a Shriner and U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII.
Survivors include his son, James E. Mims and wife, Kristy; daughter, Mary Ellen Slaydon and husband Mike; brother, Howard D. Mims all of Westlake; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louella Mims; sister, Verna Swapp and brother, Stanley Mims.
His funeral will be 10am, Saturday April 21, 2012 at Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake. Oliver McGuire will officiate. Visitation will begin Friday, 4pm-8pm and Saturday 8am until service time.
