He was born in Kaplan and lived in Lake Charles. He retired from Cities Service in 1977. He was a U.S. Army and Navy Veteran. He served in the Korean War. He received a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from SLI. He was also a football recruiter for the University of Houston. He served on the Board of the National High School Rodeo Association. He was instrumental in bringing the First National High School Rodeo Finals to Southwest La. He managed Mallard Lodge and the Cardinal Club Duck hunting camps. He also was a High School Football referee.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, JoAnn Johnson Hanks; daughters, Beth Hanks Free of Sulphur, Robin Hanks Stutes of Carlyss; sons, Jack (Jacque) D. Hanks II of Carlyss, Jed Duhon of Manchester; brother, Bobby Hanks of Metairie, LA; 10 grandchildren, Ryan, Sean, Josh, Jessica, Brooke, Marcus, Brandy, Sammi, Reina, Joanna; 9 great grandchildren, Brooks, Briggs, Brody, Dylan, Eli, Natalie, Mia, Kallie, Bella. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dozier and Anna Mae Hanks; brother, Tingy Hanks and son, Joel Duhon.
His funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven. Msgr. Charles Dubois will officiate. Burial will be in Burleson-Duhon Cemetery. Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Friday from 2-9 p.m. with rosary at 6 p.m. .
