She was born in Lafayette, LA, to parents Rousseau and Lena Connolly Chiasson on November 10,1930.
Imogene lived the majority of her life in Lake Charles, LA, with her husband, Sibley, raising their family of eight children. She retired from the State of Louisiana working with the Department of Transportation and later as a representative for the State Employees Group Benefit Program.
After her retirement, she renewed her passion for the arts, both as an artist and art instructor. In 2008, Imogene was selected as a contributing artist for the White House Christmas tree. She was a recipient of the Citizen of the Arts award in 2006, presented by Lake Charles mayor, Randy Roach.
Imogene was devout in her faith and was a member of the choir at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic
Church. She also participated in the Heartworks Ministry, where she devoted her pain and suffering through prayer for those in need and for the college students at McNeese State University.
She is welcomed into Heaven by her parents; husband, Augustus Sibley Dewey; son, Kenneth Dewey; son-in-law, Mark Gentry; and sisters, Genevieve Chiasson and Nola Williams; and brothers, John Chiasson and Willard Chiasson.
Her memory will be cherished fondly by her children, John Dewey(Joanna), Becky Sweeney(James), Steven Dewey, Denise Gentry(Steve Kimbrell), George Dewey(Kristie), Theresa Dewey(Jim Pool), and Rene Dewey(Debbie); 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ronald Lewis, and St. Joseph's Hospice Care, especially Shannon and Desirae.
The family invites relatives and friends to Hixson Funeral Home, 3001 Ryan St. Lake Charles, LA, 70607, in the Chapel of Peace, on Wednesday, October 09, 2024, for visitation beginning at 5 pm to 8 pm. A rosary will be prayed at 6 pm by Deacon Paul Gregory.
Visitation will resume on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 10 am until the time of the procession at 1:30 pm to Our Lady of Good Counsel for a Funeral Mass beginning at 2 pm with Father Paul Jussen presiding.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery in Lake Charles, LA, 70605.
