Haskell L. Nixon

He was born in Gillis, LA and lived there most of his life. Haskell was a graduate of Gillis High School and attended McNeese State University. He was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church. He served in the US Army during WWII, serving in Patton's Army. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge during his service career. He received a Purple Heart, three Bronze Stars, American Theater, Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, The Victory Ribbon, Sharp Shooter Medal and EAME Campaign medals. He was an active member of VFW Post 9933 in Moss Bluff. He was on the Ward 1 Water Board for 40 years. He was a Civil Engineer and a land surveyor. He retired with PPG Industries and was a rancher and cattleman. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy Buford Nixon; four sons, Ted Nixon and wife Joan Brenda of Lake Charles, Mike Nixon and wife Margaret of DeRidder, Gary Nixon and Vicki Lee of Gillis, Mark Nixon and wife Jacki of Lake Charles; two daughters, Donna DeBarge and husband Randy and Brenda Nixon all of Moss Bluff; 19 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

His funeral will be 10am Friday, May 9, 2014 at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Moss Bluff. Burial will be in Old Ritchie Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. Visitation is from 2pm to 10pm Thursday with a rosary at 6:30pm and will resume on Friday from 7am until service time at the funeral home.
