Gordon was a lifelong resident of Iowa for most of his life where he was a parishioner of St. Raphael Catholic Church. He attended Iowa High School where he was the state track champion in the 50 yard dash. After high school, Gordon enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served in the Korean Conflict and also was a member of the Air Force fastpitch softball team. Gordon retired after 25 years with Exxon and Sam's Club with 16 years. His two passions were duck hunting and McNeese Football and he loved spending time with the grandchildren, especially when it was attending their softball games.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Dwayne Franklin and wife Tammy, Kim McKee and husband Bruce and Dawna Doga and husband Darald "Bubba" Doga; nine grandchildren, Amber Franklin, Hannah Franklin, Brittany Carter, Hannah Cobb, Brittany Toregano, Brandon McKee, Kristin McKee Brown, Kamin Farrell, and Deveni Polito; fifteen great grandchildren; and some he loved like his own, Janis LeBlanc, Wade LeBlanc and Emily Ardoin.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 53 years, Genevieve Scheufens Franklin; brothers, Leslie James Franklin and Marvin Franklin; grandson, Taelor Jackson; and great grandson, Aiden Shotwell.
The family will welcome relatives and friends at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Thursday, December 22, 2022 beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Friday, December 23, 2022 beginning at 8:00 a.m. until the procession leaves for the church at 9:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Iowa at 10:00 a.m. Gordon will be buried at Lacassine Cemetery with military honors.
