Estelle B. “Aunt Estelle” Theriot, age 93, went home to be with the Lord at 12:03 p.m. on August 10, 2011 from her residence surrounded by friends and family. She was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, teacher, and loyal friend to many in her community. Estelle was born on July 28, 1918 in Grand Chenier, and lived most of her adult life in Creole. She was a graduate of Grand Chenier High School and a graduate of Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette, LA in 1941. She was a charter member of Catholic Daughters Court Mary Olive #1463; and also of the Creole Home Demonstration Club, where often named ‘Woman of the Year’. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Creole, and of the Sacred Heart Altar Society. For 33 years, Estelle primarily taught 4th grade at South Cameron Elementary in Cameron Parish, where she was known for excellent teaching skills and her ability to maintain discipline and respect in the classroom. Hobbies included making floral arrangements for her Church and Home Demonstration Club, sewing, canning, and always baking cakes and pies for every occasion. Estelle leaves a legacy of strong character, faith, and fearlessness in the face of whatever events brought her way in life.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, John M. ‘Man’ Theriot of Sweet Lake; 1 brother, J.W. ‘Bud’ Broussard, and dear sister-in-law, Ada Lee ‘Ricks’ Broussard of Grand Chenier; sister-in-law, Teen T. Wicke of Lake Charles; 1 son, J. Ronald Theriot, and spouse, Marlene, of Houston; 2 grandchildren: Alex Theriot, and fiance, Emily Nelson , of Houston; and Andrea T. Ross, and spouse, Scott Ross; and great-granddaughter, Gwyneth Ella Ross, of Austin; 3 nephews: Carl Broussard, Gary Wicke, Greg Wicke and spouse, Wendy; 1 niece: Faye W. White and spouse, John; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Raymie and Alix Broussard; sister, Wayne B. Montie; and brother, Thomas Broussard. Pallbearers will be Gary Wicke, Greg Wicke, Joshua Wicke, Carl Broussard, Alex Theriot and Baldwin East.
Much gratitude goes out to Estelle’s very kind cargivers: Charlene, Gloria and Shuney and wonderful Odyssey Hospice Staff for their dedicated care through her illness.
A Celebration of Estelle’s Life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Reverend Timothy Goodly will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery under direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.
