Dottie was born September 17, 1934 on the family’s rice farm in Lyons Point, Louisiana, where she was the youngest of 8 children. Dottie passed away after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. She was our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, and great grandmother. Her family loyalty, sense of humor, and her ability to laugh at herself will be sorely missed. Dottie was co-owner of Snelling Personnel of Lake Charles and founder and co-owner of Preferred Staffing Services. She was also the CFO of Hannen and Associates Retained Search Firm and worked until her final days. Her hobbies included enjoying her family, Cajun Cooking, as well as shell hunting and shell collecting. She also played a vital role in the Annual Beach Clean Up and helped restoration efforts along the Cameron coast in Little Florida. She even learned to use a Kindle at age 76! Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Paul and 3 children Paula Abshire (Kenny) of Ft. Polk, Kellie Onxley (Randy) of Sulphur and Kevin Hannen of Lake Charles. She also has 5 grandchildren, Brian, Justin, Eric, Cody and Alex as well as 3 great grandchildren. Preceding her was her oldest child, Brent Patrick Hannen, her parents, Elita and Donnerville Simon, 6 sisters and brothers. Surviving sisters include Mazel Armentor of Lafayette and Millie Comeaux of Crowley as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude to Sheryl Trahan of Heart of Hospice, Dr. Mike Broussard and his staff of LC Memorial Oncology and the Congregation of St. Michaels Episcopal Church. Her children were unbelievably supportive during her lengthy illness. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at St. Michaels Episcopal Church. The Reverend Peter Cook of St. Michaels will lead the service. Visitation will be Wednesday at the church from 1 p.m. until the start of service.
