Mrs. McCall was born in China, Texas, grew up in Crowley, Louisiana, and moved with her family to Holly Beach, graduating from Hackberry High School. In 1969, she began substitute teaching while raising her family in Grand Chenier and earning her degree in education from McNeese State University. She taught at Grand Chenier Elementary from August 21, 1972 until her retirement from the very same school on May 30, 1997. She was inspired by her husband’s longtime love for education, as he led the Cameron Parish School System as a teacher, coach and superintendent. She went on to inspire countless former students to also choose teaching
as their careers and passions. Mrs. McCall loved sports and all other activities of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a personal friend to many and enjoyed a variety of church and community activities. Her soft, kind voice and casual nature will be missed by all.
A Holy Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the St. Eugene Catholic Church Hall in Grand Chenier. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Richard Uche Adiukwu, also at St Eugene Catholic Church at 11 a.m., on Monday, March 4, 2013 with burial in the McCall Cemetery in Grand Chenier.
