Our beloved Carol Evelyn Fraguela Cooper departed from this life on March 10, 2022, at the age of 80. Carol was born on Feb. 9, 1942, in Granite, Okla., to Moises David Fraguela and Evelyn Beryl Hughes Fraguela. Although Carol was a long-time resident of Lake Charles, La., she lived the last 18 months of her life with her daughter in Baytown, Texas.
Carol was a precious southern lady with a gentle spirit and a big heart. Visitors who stopped by her home were always offered a cold bottle of Coke or invited to stay for dinner. She had a quirky sense of humor which often caught her family off guard. She had a special way of turning even the most mundane or dismal task into an adventure. A hard worker with an impeccable work ethic, she tackled every job, big or small, with equal enthusiasm and dedication.
Even as her health declined, she insisted on helping her family by performing small tasks such as folding towels or snapping green beans. She had a generous heart and was quick to give what she had to those in need. But most of all, Carol loved God and spent her life seeking to please him. As declining health prohibited her mobility, Facebook became her means of sharing God’s love. She sent encouraging messages to friends, distant family members, and even people she would never have a chance to meet in this life.Carol will be missed greatly by so many people, both near and far.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Moises and Evelyn Fraguela; her brother, David Rafael Fraguela; her husband, William Howard Cooper; her infant son, Sean Cooper; her stepson, Jackie Cooper; and her stepdaughter, Cheryl Cooper Thompson.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Tammy Babette Settlemyer Stephens and her son-in-law, James Stephens; her daughter, Vivian Ginger Settlemyer Grigsby and her son-in-law, Richard Grigsby; her son, Fountain Ellis “Skipper” Settlemyer III and her daughter-in-law, Shonna Settlemyer; her sons, David Daniel Settlemyer and Gary Michael Cooper; her stepdaughter, Donna Cooper Dukes; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and by an abundance of friends.
A memorial service for those who would like to say “goodbye” to Carol will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Apostolic Temple, 2711 W. Prien Lake Road, Lake Charles, La.
