Born in San Angelo, Texas to Ruth Wilma Huckabee Cain and Lawrence Wilbur Cain on November 17, 1945, Carol went to live a life of service and compassion. If random acts of kindness count for making a person wealthy, Carol died a millionaire. The effects of her kindness will long be remembered by the many "friends of Bill Wilson" she helped during thirty-one years of twelve step work.
After recovering from a serious neck cancer in 2001, she helped start Hobo Hotel, Inc., a cat and kitten rescue and adoption group. The organization grew under her leadership, dedication, and perseverance and to date has helped find homes for over one thousand previously homeless felines. She has truly been a community servant.
Carol lovingly touched the lives of so many it is difficult to estimate who is out there who will "cherish her memory". Certainly scores of "Hobo" volunteers, certainly a number of twelve steppers, certainly the friends she had in Tomball and other Texas towns, certainly the animal rescue groups in Calcasieu Parish, and certainly the cats she loved dearly.
She is survived by her brother, Charlie Cain of San Angelo; nieces, Charlotte Cain of Manassas, VA, Nancy Ruth Huffine of Goldvein, VA, Melinda Michael Cain of Woodbridge, VA; and nephew, Bruce Lawrence Cain of Chester, PA.
Funeral services will be 3 P.M. Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, LA. Visitation will be from 1 P.M. to 3 P.M. Sunday, March 7, 2010. Carol requested donations be made for the ongoing rescuing of cats and kittens through Hobo Hotel, Inc. P.O. Box 810, Lake Charles, LA 70602.
