Barbara was born in Monroe, LA to the late John Arthur and Ruby Steen. She lived most of her life in Lake Charles, LA, with the exception of her time with her husband at Tulane University and three memorable years in Clinton, MS. She was a devoted wife and mother and a woman who always prayed for her children, their friends, and the children of her personal friends. She and her husband had fond memories of the years they taught Training Union at First Baptist Church to the high schoolers. In her later years, Barbara treasured her Sunday School class friends.
Barbara was blessed with a large and loving family. She married William “Bill” Woodward upon his return from serving in WWll, July, 26th 1946 at First Baptist Church in Lake Charles, where they had both grown up. She raised four children who were also brought up in the same church family and taught the “Way of the Lord.”
Barbara is survived by her son, William Craig Woodward of Moss Bluff; daughters, Debbie Holifield and husband Bill of Livingston, LA; Donyce Woodward of Sulphur, LA; Sally Rosenbohm and husband Cliff of Newberg, OR; local grandchildren, Sarah Woodward, Nadine Callahan Blake, Rebekah Woodward Nash and Michelle Callahan Scoggins, out of town grandchildren are, Shawnette, Kathy, Jonathan , Jessica, Laura, Hannah, Kristen, Grace and Bennett; fifteen great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, William H. Woodward, parents and her brother, Lloyd Steen.
Her funeral service will be 2:00pm, Thursday, August 4, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Lake Charles. Her son-in-law, Rev. Bill Holifield will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles and resume Thursday at the church at 12pm until time of service.
