Barbara Ann (Shoemake) Carrington
August 24, 1937 - April 26, 2018
Barbara Ann Shoemake Carrington, 80, of Lake Charles, LA went to meet her Heavenly Father and to join her beloved husband of 55 years, Harold Grant Carrington, on April 26, 2018.
Barbara Carrington was born on August 24, 1937 in New Iberia, LA to Ruby Lee Dennis Shoemake and J.B. Shoemake. Barbara attended St Charles Academy and then Lake Charles High School where she graduated in 1955. She was a Majorette and a Kiltie. After high school graduation, Barbara attended Business College. Barbara was a member of Sue Ferrier School of Dance for many years and she performed solos in Ballet, Jazz, Acrobats and Tap Dance. Barbara supervised the Computer Room at JC Penneys in Lake Charles in the 1970s and '80s. After Retirement from JC Penneys, Barbara and her husband moved to Virginia, her husband's home state, where she later retired from Navy Federal Credit Union as an Administrative Assistant. She and her husband then returned to live in Lake Charles after their retirement.
Barbara was a long-time member of Trinity Baptist Church in Lake Charles where she taught Children's Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, was an active member of Adult Sunday School, a member of the JOY Senior Church Choir, and WINGS.
Barbara loved spending time with her family and friends. She had a precious loving, caring, and giving spirit. Barbara cared for her mother and then cared for her beloved husband for 12 years during his prolonged illness.
Barbara Carrington is survived by her daughters, Veronica L Gardner and Sheila R Gaskin, both of Lake Charles, LA. Her grandchildren Brandon Lee Comer, Kain Michael Gardner and Lauren Elizabeth Gaskin, all of Lake Charles, LA. Her great grandson Graham Dalton Comer of Lake Charles, LA. Her brother Clifford D Shoemake (Loretta) of Lake Charles, LA.
Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Harold Grant Carrington, and her parents Ruby Lee Dennis Shoemake and J.B. Shoemake.
Barbara Carrington's Funeral Service will be at Hixson Funeral Home at 2:30pm on Monday, April 30 in the South Chapel. Visitation is at Hixson's Funeral Home on Sunday, April 29 from 2-6pm and will continue on Monday, April 30 from 11am until the start of the Funeral Service at 2:30pm.
Barbara's family wishes to extend our gratitude to her Caregiver, Amber Douglass.
Officiating the service will be Reverend Randy Monroe, vocalist will be Andy Jacobson and keyboardist will be Joann Turner.
