Allen was the oldest child born to Bernerd S. Breland and Jean Meeks, born in Bastrop, LA on October 19, 1949. As the oldest child, he led by example. His siblings always looked up to him for encouragement and advice, to which he humorously gave input.
Upon graduating from Sterlington High School, he enlisted in the United States Army, as a Morse Interceptor, serving in the Vietnam War. Upon receiving an honorable discharge he returned to Louisiana, enrolling in Southeastern Louisiana University, earn his degree in communications. He was a member of the Louisiana Association of Education, a member of SPALS working as a Speech Therapist and Evaluator until his retirement.
In 1983 he welcomed his first of four children, a son he named Christopher Allen, followed by double trouble in 1985; David and Daniel, and last but not least, Michael in 1993. Like he was to his siblings, he was to his children; leading by example, unwavering in a time of need, and generously giving his love of family to his children and anyone he met. He never failed to pass down his sense of humor; especially the ability to crack the right joke at the wrong time.
In 2003, with open arms he treasured the title of grandparent, answering to Paw Paw or Grandpa. He doted on his children and grandchildren equally, devoting time and love to each of them, never declining an opportunity to spoil them, exhaust them, and dropping them back home after a fun sugar filled day. He had many hobbies, especially woodworking, fishing, playing guitar, and grilling, each of which always involved family time. Football season was his favorite holiday, you'd find him cracking bad jokes from the grill, cooking chicken and burgers or in his recliner yelling "WHO DAT" or "GEAUX TIGERS".
As a dutiful father, attending one of many concerts for Michael, he became reacquainted with an old flame, Heather. In 2016 they were happily wed, expanding his family with the same devotion and love.
He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, and many of the greats who also succumbed to ALS.
Those left to repeat and share his "Tasteful" jokes and humor are, his wife; Heather Breland, his children; Christopher (Dawn), David, Daniel Breland, Michael Farrar, Ben (Hannah) Bernard, Elizabeth (Ryan) Lassiter, his grandchildren; Clayton, Elizabeth, Samantha, and Killian, his siblings; Charles Breland, Victoria (Stephen) Kemper, Michael (Jerri) Breland, Vern (Melissa) Breland, Toni (Randy) Thompson and his extended family.
