A WWII veteran, (Army Air Corps). He was originally from Detroit, Michigan and later Florida and Kentucky. During WWII, Col. Hunt served as a mechanic/gunner on B-29's in the Pacific (CBI) Theater. He was a 40 year career educator serving as a teacher and administrator for handicapped children and adults (Detroit Public Schools); a community college dean (Washtenaw Comm. College, Ann Arbor, MI), retired in 1979 as Superintendent of schools (Westwood District, MI) and then during retirement in Fl, Director with St. Leo University. Col./Dr. Hunt earned his bachelors ('51), masters ('53) and Doctorate ('64) degrees in education from Wayne State University. Concurrent with his career in education, Col./Dr. Hunt served in the United States Air Force Reserve and retired as a full Colonel. During his retirement, Col./Dr. Hunt and his late wife of 68 years, Mary Ann, volunteered with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, 15 years at St. Elizabeth Hospital and the Parish Kitchen. He was a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Hiatt (Dave) of Florence, KY, son Joel Hunt (Tara) of Westpark, Florida, grandchildren Jennifer Hitch (Jason), Harold, Christopher and Samantha Hunt and great grandchildren Collin and Mackenzie Hitch.
A graveside service with internment to follow will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida at the Naval Air Station on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 1pm. A celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
