Linda Darlene Via, affectionately known as Dar and Sissy, passed away on June 30, 2024, in Buckner, Kentucky at the age of 73. Born on January 4, 1951, in Shelbyville, Kentucky, she was a lifelong resident of the area, cherished by her community and loved ones.
Darlene dedicated many years of service as a school bus driver for the Oldham County school system before retiring from the food service industry in 2013. Her nurturing nature extended beyond her professional life into her personal passions. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed dancing, and was a vocalist in the Cabin Fever Band, sharing her joy for music with many.
A woman of great kindness and strength, Darlene was a blessing to everyone she met. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her love for animals was profound, with her loyal pet companion, Macy, by her side toward the end of her life.
Darlene is survived by her son, David Jeremy Via and his wife, Stephanie, of Charlestown, Indiana; sister, Debra A. Webster and her companion, Donald, of Buckner, Kentucky; grandchildren, Caleb A. Hensley and his fiancee, Lily, of Charlestown, IN, and Hannah G. Hensley and her companion, Danyal, of Champaign, IL; great-grandchildren, Brody A. Hensley and Leo A. Hensley of Charlestown, IN; aunt, Judy Scruggs of Louisville, Kentucky; niece, Lindsey Webster of Buckner, Kentucky; nephew, Donald R. Hinkle and his companion, Amanda, of Shelbyville, Kentucky; and many loving cousins. She also leaves behind her lifelong friend, Barbara Manley Calloway. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ramona Scruggs Oakes and Robert F. Lay; her husband, David A. Via; brother, Robert F. Lay; and niece, Mackindsey Ann-Nacole Walker.
Services to honor Darlene's life will be held at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home, 706 West Jefferson Street, La Grange, KY 40031, on Saturday, July 6th, at 2PM. Visitation will be held from 11am until the start of service. Donations to assist with funeral expenses can be made to Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home.
Darlene's legacy of kindness, strength, and joy will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
