Jim was born in Madison, IN to Roger and Laura Hicks on February 13, 1933. He graduated from LaGrange High School in 1951 and attended the University of Kentucky for two years. Jim then enter the Army and was assigned to the Signal Corp and was trained as a Cryptographer. He spent the remainder of his career stationed in Japan. After being discharged from the Army Jim enrolled, under the GI Bill at Western Kentucky University. Upon graduation the requirements to become an Elementary School Principal. He was principal at Hawthorne, Prestonia and Klondike where he finished his career. Jim was past President of the Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association, University of Louisville Boosters Club and a member of NRA. He was also a Kentucky Colonel and a board member at Farmington.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Noel Hicks; brother, Tom Hicks (Billie); sisters, Carrie Hicks and Mary Hicks; niece, Virginia (Mike) Huffman: nephew, John, Matt and Bob; great nephews and nieces, Morgan, Beth, J. T. (Kelly) and Bobby; great-great nephews, Eli, Bryan and Brody.
A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11 AM on Friday, October 15, 2021, at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home with burial to follow in Pewee Valley Cemetery. Visitation from 10 AM until 11 AM on Friday.
