William George Hamlett was born March 6, 1953, in Thomaston, Georgia, and died Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Hospice LaGrange. He was the son of the late Oran Curtis Hamlett and Elsie Grace Storey Hamlett.
William worked at Coats & Clark and attended West Georgia College and Southern Technical Institute, earning a degree in Applied Engineering. He was among the most respected individuals in the textile industry, having worked for Milliken, Fieldcrest Mills, and Fieldcrest-Cannon, and later for his accomplishments and ability to grow private labels for Wal-Mart and Home Depot. These business associations allowed him to travel to many foreign countries and cities and, at times, circled the entire world while transacting and conducting business.
William was a church of Christ member, serving as a deacon in Concord, NC, and in all congregations; he served as a song leader, Bible class teacher, and occasional preaching.William loved building and woodworking and passing on his knowledge to others. He also loved visiting botanical gardens with Mary and began to develop their property with many gardens to reflect their passion.

10 Grandchildren: Maura Joy Hamlett Lam (Gavin), Colton Thomas Hamlett, Lillian Grace Hamlett, Owen Tucker Hamlett, Amelia Hope Springs, Wyatt Justice Springs, Naomi Gloria Springs, Carolina Joy Springs, Olivia Faith Hamlett, Ashlynn Grace Hamlett. Brothers and Sisters: Elane Hamlett Johnson (deceased), Kenneth Oran Hamlett, Ann (Hamlett) Holliman, Tony Storey Hamlett, James Wesley Hamlett. William is also survived by an aunt, Miriam Torrance Storey, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 17, 2023, from the chapel of the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary LaGrange, with Minister Jonathan Page officiating. The family will have a time of visitation from 1- 2 PM before the service. The day of the service marks the date that William and Mary were married June 17, 1973.
Entombment will be held before the service at Shooting Creek Memorial Gardens in Shooting Creek, North Carolina.
