Mr. William Burl Goodwin

He was preceded in death by his parents John Handley Goodwin and Mary Emma Lawrence Goodwin.

Bill is survived by his wife Sue Griffin Goodwin, to whom he was married for 68 years.

Bill was born in Roanoke, AL, on November 19, 1933. He grew up in LaGrange, GA, where he met his wife, Sue. Bill and Sue lived in LaGrange until their children were grown, after which they moved to Pine Mountain, GA, where they bought some land, restored a house, and enjoyed life with many cats, dogs, and a horse named Omega. Bill and Sue enjoyed showing Great Danes and English Pointers for many years. Later they enjoyed their motor home and camping with the Holiday Rambler camping group. Bill was a devout Christian and a member of New Covenant Baptist Church in Pine Mountain. In 1981 Bill was ordained as a deacon of First Baptist Church. He was superintendent of Sunday school and taught Sunday school in the Junior Department for 10 years. He served as vice president and president of the Harris County Lions Club, president of the Great Dane club of the Mid South, and president of the Columbus Kennel Club.

Bill is survived by his children, Catherine Sue Goodwin, Virginia Scott Lovell (Adrian), and Mary Lawrence "Laurie" Reece (Verlyn). Grandchildren, William Adrian Lovell, III (Lauren), Jennifer Lovell Lewis (Kellan), and Lindsey Reece Bryant (Dusty). Great-grandchildren, William Adrian Lovell, IV, Tilson Ballard Lovell, Edwin Lawrence Lovell, Henry Buckingham Lewis, Virginia Joyce Lewis, John Griffin Lewis, Reece Theodore Bryant, and Maxwell James Bryant.

Funeral services for Mr. Goodwin will be held Monday, January 9, 2023, at 2 PM with visitation from 1-2 PM at New Covenant Baptist Church in Pine Mountain, GA. Interment to follow at Hillview Cemetery in LaGrange, GA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to New Covenant Baptist Church of Pine Mountain, GA.
