Mrs. Evans was born on February 15, 1918 to James Henry Morris and Fannie Kate Bexley Morris in Moreland, Georgia. She graduated from Erskine College in 1939 and afterwards taught school for several years in Jesup, later in Moreland after the war started, and briefly in Hamilton.
In 1947 she married Mr. Evans and began the greatest calling of her life as a devoted wife, mother and full time homemaker, in the best sense of that word. Her heart was for the old and infirmed and with that passion she dedicated herself to a lifelong ministry of shut-in visitations, eventually resulting in the renaming of the church “Home Circle” to the Virginia Evans circle. Other pursuits included many dedicated years as area chairman of the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society, hospital pink lady, children’s department Sunday school teacher and numerous other activities involving her children.
Mrs. Evans will be tenderly missed by her surviving family including two sons and a daughter-in-law, Morris and Lyn Evans of Snellville, and Walter Evans of Atlanta, a daughter and son-in-law, Priscilla and Mike Sibley of Marietta, four grandchildren, John, Leah and Ben Sibley and Taylor Evans, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 2:00 pm with Dr. Doug DeCelle and Dr. William Conine officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery in Moreland. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm in the parlor of the church.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests any memorials to be made to the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange or the Salvation Army.
