Virgil Swinton “Swint” Johns III, 72, of Tampa, FL, passed away on July 9, 2022. He was born in LaGrange, GA to Fay Estes and Virgil Swinton Johns Jr., on April 7, 1950. Swint was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother, Alan. He is survived by his wife Christy, sons, Daniel and Ross, and his daughter-in-law, Stacy. He also leaves his brother Philip, sisters Donna, Evelyn, Tracey and numerous nieces and nephews.
Swint attended Auburn University, where he met the love of his life, Christy. He furthered his education at Southern Technical Institute, graduating with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Careers brought Swint and Christy to Tampa, where they made their new home, life-long friends, started a family and enjoyed 44 years of loving marriage. They were meant for each other from the beginning and supported and loved each other entirely. Swint was vigorously committed to his sons, as both a remarkable Scoutmaster in their Boy Scout troop and a devoted coach in all sports they chose to play. He was instrumental in both his sons becoming Eagle Scouts and college graduates.
His family will hold services on Saturday, August 20th at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, with visitation beginning at 10am. Friend of the family and Minister Jim Camp, will officiate memorial services starting at 11am.
Memorial gifts in Swint’s memory may be made to Shriner’s Hospital or a charity of choice. Swint’s family extends sincere thanks to Dr. Michael Cromer, Dr. Pablo Ruiz-Ramon, Dr. Gus Agocha, Dr. Joel Fernandez and their staffs as well as close friends who provided support that enabled him to outlive his prognosis and fulfill his ultimate wishes.
