Mr. Thompson was born October 5, 1939 in Tallassee, AL, son of the late Lynward Thompson and Austelle Mitchell Thompson. He was a U.S. Army veteran during which time he served in Vietnam. Mr. Thompson was self-employed as a distributor for Flowers Bakery and was employed with Home Depot for many years. He was a super father and husband and enjoyed spending time with his family and was most commonly known by everyone as the “bread man” and “Mr. Bob the lawnmower man”. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Thompson.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Thompson; children, Steven Thompson, Cindy Pherigo, Doug Wachal, Kevin Thompson, Vicki Lowe, and Jerold Wachal; 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Nancy McIver and Susy Beale; brother, Ray Thompson; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 4:00 P.M. Friday, August 12, 2016 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, LaGrange, GA with Rev. Kory Trinrud and Mr. Ray Thompson officiating. The gathering of family and friends will be on Friday, August 12, 2016 from 3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request contributions be made to West Georgia Hospice, 1510 Vernon Road, LaGrange, GA 30240 in memory of Mr. Robert “Bob” Lynward Thompson.
