Mrs. Martin was born December 8, 1933 in Columbus, GA to the late Ocie D. Smith and Mary Willie (Curlee) Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 2 husbands, James C. Anderson and O.D. Martin; step-mother, Anne Smith; son-in-law, James Ray Hancock; great-grandson, Ethan Anderson Moone. Mrs. Martin worked twenty-two years at radio station WTRP, retiring as station manager. Previously, she had been the local correspondent for the Atlanta Journal. In 1981, she and her husband, James, opened “Family Tree” dedicated to preserving the county records and helping others research their family heritage. She served several years as the Troup County Historian. She was an active member of the West Georgia Genealogical Society, The Past President of Women’s Division of the Chamber of Commerce, The American Cancer Society, The Troup Heart Fund, and the United Way. She was a member of Trinity on the Hill Church. She also received the Yellow Jacket District Award of Merit from the Boy Scouts.
Survivors include her children, Delane Knight (Ricky), Susan Hancock of Charleston, SC, Teresa Bain, Kelly Anderson (Della); stepdaughter, Jan Martin Lockerbie (Brian); grandchildren, Eddie Moone (LaLani), Ben Moone (Michelle), Mandy Knight Smith, Jennifer Knight, Catherine Garman (Brett), Christopher Bain, Daphney Bain, Kenneth Bain, Austin Bain, Brian Anderson, and Abbie Anderson; step-grandchildren, David Lockerbie and Lauren Lockerbie Hill (Danny); six great grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Smith (Leila); one step-sister, Tina Carden of Columbus, GA; a sister-in-law, Ednalen Anderson of Bakersfield, CA; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Gathering of family and friends will be 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday, February 27, 2019 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Mr. Dan Wooten and Rev. Hope Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
