She was the daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Alex Lane and Mrs. Charlie Freeman Lane. Mrs. Pope was born on December 20, 1945. She is preceded in death by both parents, her sister Bonnie Lane Pritchett and brother Paul Alex Lane.
Mrs. Pope was born in Randolph County, Alabama and grew up on a farm in East Troup County. She graduated from Heard County High School in 1963. She was member of Glenn Baptist Church where she taught Children’s Bible classes as well as growing and making flower arrangement for Sunday Service. Her Associates Degree was in Sociology. She enjoyed entertaining and being with people, cooking, gardening, reading, and sewing. Spending time with her family was one of the greatest joys of her life.
Her husband was in the Army for 20 years of their marriage. Travel and relocating were frequent for the family. The family returned to Georgia when Mr. Pope retired. Even with the constant relocation, Mrs. Pope was an administrative secretary for 20 years and an insurance agent for 15 years prior to her retirement.
Mrs. Pope is survived by her husband of 51 years, Randy Blake Pope, her daughter, Kellie Pope Bauer, son-in-law, Anthony Aron Bauer, her son, Thomas Blake Pope and his wife, Heather Thompson Pope. Kellie and Anthony have two children, Aron Blake Bauer and Adrianna Lane Bauer. Her two sisters, Tommie Lane Roper and Martha Lane Bennett, also survive Mrs. Pope.
The family will receive friends and family at Mr. and Mrs. Pope’s home at 107 Nashua Court. Those wishing to express their memories can do so at her memorial service, which will be held in the Chapel of Striffler Hamby Mortuary on Friday, August 29, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. The service will be officiated by Reverend Michael Hornsby of New Hope Baptist Church.
