Mrs. Franklin was born Sara Janet Farr on February 28, 1935 in LaFayette, AL, to the late Leita Yearta and William Bernard Farr. She graduated from LaFayette High School and attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University). Mrs. Franklin was a hard worker, from the cotton mills as a teenager to providing valuable administrative support for jobs in Columbus, Albany, LaGrange, and Florence, AL, including being the very first secretary for the Troup County Planning Commission. She was a member of LaGrange First United Methodist Church, dedicated blood donor for the American Red Cross, and as a member of the LaGrange Elks Lodge Auxiliary, supported the Elks Aidmore Children’s Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Hugh Farr.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Chuck Franklin; son, Rick Franklin; daughter, Jan Franklin; granddaughters, Amber and Ashley Franklin; sister, Melba Cosby; and brothers, Wendell Farr and Tom Farr.
Due to the health crisis in LaGrange, the family will have a private service at this time.
