James Solomon "Jimmy" Strickland

Mr. Strickland was born December 31, 1938, in Troup County, GA, son of the late Thomas Pace Strickland and Lucie Wright Strickland. He was a lifelong resident in Meriwether County, where he raised cattle and farmed. Mr. Strickland served in the United States Air Force and was a Special Deputy Sheriff of Meriwether County for a number of years and retired from the United States Postal Service. Mr. Strickland was a member of the Chipley Masonic Lodge # 40 and attended First Baptist Church in Pine Mountain, GA. After retirement, he enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and helping his sons and grandsons at the farm as well as watching old western movies. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Pace Strickland, Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Sue Rossmiller Strickland; two sons, Terry Strickland and wife Lee and Mike Strickland and wife Loraine; daughter, Jodie Strickland Teel and husband Jim, all of Pine Mountain, GA; sister, Tommie Lou Strickland of Roswell, GA; ten grandchildren, Nicole Strickland Quattlebaum, Justin Strickland, Matthew Strickland, Ethan Strickland, Travis Strickland, Nathan Strickland, Sam Teel, Caroline Teel, Henry Teel and Jacob Teel, all of Pine Mountain, GA; step grandchildren, Tiffany Swann, Rachel Johnson and Tyler McDaniel, all of Columbus, GA; two great grandsons; one step great grandson; other relatives and friends.

The gathering of family and friends will be Friday, July 25, 2014 from 6:00 til 8:00 P.M. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary LaGrange Chapel. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 26, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Pine Mountain with Reverend Kenneth Grubbs officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Mountain City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Pine Mountain, GA or to the West Georgia Hospice, 1510 Vernon Rd., LaGrange, GA 30240 in memory of Mr. James Strickland.
