In addition to her parents, she was preceded to heaven by her husband, Rev. George F Smith; son, David George Smith; and grandson, Brandon David Smith.
Ida Smith was born November 6,1928 in Allentown, PA and the daughter of the late Ard Stine Barr and late Elsie Schlicher Barr. She was the youngest of 7 children. Ida graduated from Boyertown High School in 1946 and married George F. Smith in 1949. They attended Philadelphia Biblical University together. In 1956, they moved to LaGrange to start The Harbor, Inc, a Christian rehabilitation center for alcoholics. Her husband, George Smith, was the founder and Executive Director. Ida was involved alongside George in this ministry as they served The Harbor, Inc for 25 years before retiring in 1980.
Ida never met a stranger! She delighted in socializing especially at church suppers on Wednesday night! Ida shared her time, talents and love of Christ with those who crossed her path. She will be remembered as a woman who prayed and read God’s word, trusted God for her every need, generous toward others, forgiving, servant spirit, encourager, grateful for God’s blessings and loved unconditionally.
Ida Smith was an active member of the First Baptist Church on the Square in LaGrange, GA where she taught children for 60 years! She led the Conversational English class for Japanese and was involved with various prayer groups, WMU and the New Horizons Senior Choir.
