Edward Paul Waltemath, Lt.USNR (Ret), Ed was born September 14, 1918 in Moorefield, Nebraska and passed away April 12, 2014 in LaGrange, GA. He graduated from Hastings College in Hastings, NE in 1939, with a B.S. in mathematics and physics. He taught high school math and coached football until he enlisted in the Navy in 1941. He met the love of his life, Margaret Brewster of Omaha and they married in June 1941. He attended Midshipman’s School at Columbia University in NYC and was commissioned as an Ensign in February 1943. He served on the Destroyer USS Kimberly in the South Pacific until January 1946.
He returned to Hastings College as Director of Admissions until 1949 when he resigned to enter the business world. Ed joined Alexander Smith Carpet Company of NY that lead to a long and successful career in National Sales Management. He was recruited by Milliken Carpets in 1971 as Director of Commercial Sales and retired in September 1983 and yet continued working as a consultant for Milliken until December 2003.
He was preceded in death by Margaret (Peg) after 64 years of marriage and survived by their three sons; Terry, Gary (Luanne) of Nashville, TN, and David (Joy) of Ocala, FL, 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
The Gathering of Family and Friends will be Monday, April 14, 2014 from 5:00 pm til 7:00 pm at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Funeral Services will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, LaGrange, GA. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Memorial Fund at First Presbyterian Church, 120 Broad St., LaGrange, GA 30240.
