Neal, as he was known by all, was born October 24, 1924 in Clinton, SC, son of the late Levi Wesley and Edna Irene Wiley Barnes. He proudly served his country during WWII, in the United States Army. Neal owned and operated Barnes Service and Garage from 1958-1978. He also was employed with the City of LaGrange for 25 years as Supervisor of Transportation and was a member of Ayres Memorial United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Barnes and eight siblings.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Steve Harrington; three sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie and Sherry Barnes, Ronnie and Susan Barnes, Tommy and Amy Barnes; eight grandchildren, Chad and Lynn Harrington, Connie and David Morrison, Jason Barnes, Wendy and Mike Kleinmeyer, Matt and Jill Barnes, Valerie and Justin Daniel, Nathan Barnes, Sarah Beth Barnes; great grandchildren, Alex Harrington, Kristi Harrington, Abigail Barnes, Isabel Barnes, Gavin Daniel, Reagan Daniel, Cameron Kleinmeyer; one brother and sister-in-law, Edker and Barbara Barnes; other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Brett Matthews and Reverend Wayne Hester officiating. The Gathering of Family and Friends will be 11:00 a.m. until service time at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may make contributions to Ayres Memorial United Methodist Church in memory of Clarence ‘Neal’ Barnes.
