Mr. Cummings was born April 6, 1925 in Roanoke, AL, son of the late Thomas Rufus Cummings and Bela Richardson Cummings. Mr. Cummings served 13 years in the U.S. Army, serving with the 29th Infantry Division during War World II and was a survivor of Omaha Beach and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was the owner/operator of Cummings Farm Service before retiring. Mr. Cummings was a mason and a member of the Cattleman’s association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Bass Cummings, sister, Margaret Cummings Nation, and two brothers, Thomas Aaron Cummings and Gene Cummings.
Survivors include two daughters, Reba Smith of West Point, GA and Linda Yarbrough (Bobby) of Pine Mountain, GA; two sons, Roger Cummings (Pat) and Roy Cummings (Sharon), all of LaGrange; 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; 6 siblings, Wilson Cummings, Buddy Cummings Jr., Delilah Fetner, Susan Cummings, Billy Joe Cummings, and Ricky Cummings; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services, with military honors, will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 27, 2013 in Meadoway Gardens Cemetery with Reverend Max McCord officiating. The gathering of family and friends will be on Tuesday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
The family will be at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bobby Yarbrough, 6738 Hamilton Road, Pine Mountain, GA 31822.
