Mrs. Brown was born May 16, 1929 in Hart County, GA, daughter of the late Walter Fleming and Peggy Cordell Fleming. She attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA where she earned her BS degree in Secondary Education in 1950. Mrs. Brown taught Home Economics at Troup High School for 35 years and retired in 1986.
Mrs. Brown was a loyal member of First Baptist Church on the Square, where she was active in various ministries of the church. She taught a youth Sunday School Class for many years and helped with the Meals-on-Wheels program. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class, Merry Makers, and the Bereavement Committee. Mrs. Brown loved traveling, playing bridge, and watching and attending sport events with her husband.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, James E. Brown; sister, Betty F. Wallace, both of LaGrange; and a nephew, David Collins and his wife Jaime Meadows Collins of Rainier, Oregon.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at First Baptist Church on the Square with Dr. Paul Baxter and Reverend Paul Blair officiating. Burial will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
